Friends, family, and people I meet in my travels are always asking me how I got involved in the business of headbands, since it’s such an uncommon career. I usually have a lot of explaining to do since I’ve never been obsessed with headbands and I never even knew what it meant to be an entrepreneur. It all started one day when my “Kramer” hair (Yes, I’m referring to Seinfeld’s Kramer with the crazy fro) was standing unusually high in the air so I borrowed a friends’ headband. It was super cute, green and pink, and OMG…It actually stayed put! However, within 45 minutes I had such a kickin’ headache that I ripped it off, swore never to wear it again, and promptly returned it to my friend.
After pouting a bit about having such a sensitive head, I began wondering why baseball caps were adjustable but historically headbands have always been “One Size Fits Some.” As the daughter of an engineer, I began to play around with the idea of making adjustable headbands. My friend argued that making headbands adjustable was unnecessary and over-complicating an otherwise simple product. We argued about it for a month but the stubborn Irish in me wouldn’t budge. I finally convinced her of the value in designing an adjustable headband so EVERY woman could experience a comfortable headband…. and Glam Headbands was born.
At that time there was one company making adjustable headbands, but they weren’t non-slip. Women walked around all day with a headband unattractively hanging off their head. A second company was making non-slip headbands but they only fit certain head sizes.
